On Saturday, May 17, St. John’s School welcomed 63 enthusiastic young learners into a world of colour, creativity, and self-expression through a vibrant children’s art workshop led by alumnus and artist Huifong Ng.
The session, held in the school’s multi-purpose hall, encouraged students to explore their creativity, develop observation skills, and experiment with colour mixing and shapes —key foundations of creating a painting.
A Morning of Creativity and Curiosity
From the very beginning, Huifong set a tone of playful freedom and exploration. “There’s no teacher here—just you, and your imagination!” she told the students. This philosophy shaped the entire session, empowering children to embrace the creative process without fear of being “right” or “wrong.”
The workshop opened with observational learning, where students learned to study form, shade, and structure before translating what they saw onto paper. They then progressed to colour mixing and creative painting, where they were invited to blend and apply colours in expressive ways.
Nurturing Creativity Without Limits
The workshop was designed not just to teach technique, but to foster confidence in each child’s creative experience. Huifong’s warm and energetic approach created a safe space where students could experiment, make bold choices, and proudly own their work.
“I think it’s a great value for students when Huifong engages them, and they are told to exercise their creativity,” said Alex Song, a member of the Board of Governors at St. John’s School. “There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ here. Our students showed great imagination and ability in perceiving shapes, shades and applying these on their canvases.”
By the end of the session, every child held up a completed artwork—each one unique and full of personality.

5月17日星期六，圣约翰学校迎来了63位充满热情的少儿学员，走进一个色彩斑斓、创意无限、自我表达的艺术世界——由校友兼艺术家黄慧芬主持的儿童艺术工作坊。
活动在学校多功能厅举行，鼓励学生们探索创作灵感，培养观察力，并尝试颜色混合与形状构成——绘画创作的核心基础。
创意与好奇心交织的上午
活动伊始，慧芬就营造出一种轻松自由的氛围。“这里没有老师，只有你和你的想象力！”她告诉孩子们。这一理念贯穿全程，鼓励孩子们勇敢拥抱创作过程，不拘泥于“对”与“错”。
工作坊以观察学习为起点，孩子们学习捕捉形态、明暗和结构，进而将所见呈现在纸上。随后进入颜色混合与创意绘画环节，孩子们被邀请大胆运用色彩，自由表达内心世界。
激发无限创造力
本次工作坊不仅传授绘画技巧，更致力于培养每位孩子的创作自信。慧芬以温暖而富有活力的教学方式，营造出安全包容的环境，让孩子们敢于尝试，勇于做出大胆选择，骄傲地拥有自己的作品。
圣约翰学校董事会成员宋文智表示：“慧芬引导学生发挥创造力，带给他们极大的成长价值。这里没有‘对’与‘错’的界限。我们的学生展现出丰富的想象力和敏锐的观察力，并将这些灵感运用到他们的画布上。”
活动结束时，每个孩子都骄傲地举起了自己独一无二、充满个性的艺术作品。
