On Tuesday, June 24, 27 students from St. Angela’s School, Seria gathered for an art workshop led by Huifong Ng.
Learning to Observe and Analyze
The afternoon began with a hands-on exploration of two familiar fruits — apple and pineapple — used as subjects to guide students through fundamental art techniques.

Students learned to break down complex shapes into simpler forms, carefully observing proportions, textures, and shadows. They were also introduced to color mixing, allowing them to discover how layered hues can make paintings special. These foundational lessons aimed to sharpen the students’ ability in observing daily seemingly mundane objects and interpret the world around them through an artistic lens.
Every Style Matters: Embracing Individual Expression
While the exercises were the same, the results were wonderfully different. The workshop emphasized the importance of individual painting styles, encouraging each student to express their personal vision. From vibrant and bold illustrations to soft, delicate renderings, every piece was celebrated.

The session created a space where creativity thrived and students felt safe to explore and embrace their own unique approaches. This appreciation of diversity in style not only developed their technical skills but also strengthened their self-confidence and artistic identity.
Lasting Impact: Creativity for Life
Through observation, analysis, and creative experimentation, participants gained skills that apply not only to art but to problem-solving, innovation, and critical thinking in daily life.
The workshop, made possible through the sponsorship of Alex Song, concluded with a joyful group photo and a sense of pride in what these young talents had created. With artworks in hand and new knowledge in mind, the workshop served as more than just an art class for the young artists,—it was a memorable stepping stone in their creative journeys.
